I have been involved in the fitness business for over 25 years. I obtained my initial "Fitness Leadership" certifications from the YMCA and Fanshawe College in 1981, and began to lead fitness classes for the recreation board in Goderich, Ontario.
The desire to design and lead fitness programs in my own studio, pointed me to open New Attitude Fitness Studio in 1989. I continued to lead wide a variety of fitness classes, including the newest trend at the time, that being STEP classes. I also saw a need to bring fitness training "on the move". With that in mind, I also offered fitness classes in wide variety of venues such as Community Seniors facilities and Workplaces.
In 1999, when it became apparent there was a need for a "Full Service" Gym in Goderich, we opened "Total Fitness". As manager of this gym, I continued to lead all aspects of group training, but also saw an opportunity to assist our clients even more by providing training in the use of the equipment that we had in the gym. In 2002, I became a certified Personal Trainer through the Sports Performance Institute (SPI). The training for this program was headed by Ed McNeely-M.Sc., who has worked extensively with the Canadian Rowing Association and its Olympic and National Team Programs.
In 2003, I moved to Kelowna with my family and brought my passion for fitness with me. I began to offer Personal Training to my clients using their own fitness equipment in the comfort of their own homes. This experience has been very satisfying for me.
In my initial meeting with my clients, we do a fitness assessment, discuss and set a series of short and long term fitness goals. The focus of my sessions is fitness training with the use of weight bearing exercises and cardio, but with any eye always toward CORE strength and flexibility.
In order to offer my clients the best of service, I strive to have at my finger-tips the most current information on fitness. I hold BCRPA credits as well certifications from ACE, Can-Fit-Pro, YMCA, First Aid and CPR.
I have adopted a plant-based diet, as I believe it mirrors my commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. I like to be very active, taking part in yoga and outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping and exercising my two very energetic Jack Russell Terriers.
